Queenslander’s apply for Funding for Dirt Driver Training Scholarships
Working as a sub-committee within the Ipswich and West Moreton Auto Club, (IWMAC) in conjunction with the, Queensland Hyundai Excel Rally series, the group has applied to the Queensland Government’s National, Parks, Recreation, Sport, and Racing Department to assist financially in running a rally driver training course throughout 2013.
The proposed series is aimed at people relatively new to the sport of competitive driving on dirt with two thirds of funding aimed at competitors under 18.
The State Government grants will be awarded at the end of February 2013 and if successful the project will be rolled out from March/April until the end of the year. Support for the program has already been approved from The Queensland Hyundai Excel Series, The Ipswich and West Moreton Auto Club, a number of private sector businesses, high profile Queensland drivers, CAMS and the Australian Rally Championship.
If successful up to fifteen Hyundai Excel drivers will be offered scholarships. The main focus will be on driver, training and the series will utilise a comprehensive training and mentoring program delivered by Queensland’s top sports persons and professionals throughout the year.
