Cullens take maiden win as the title is blown wide open
Fro puts an end to The Polynesian Dream..
Only four Excels faced the starter for round 5 of the Race Brakes NSW Excel Rally Series. Possibly, wisely several teams had decided to take officiating points at this round. There had been considerable rain leading up to the event which continued during the rally.
A maiden event win was taken by Matt & Ben Cullen who survived a big spin in Stage 2, nearly running out of fuel, a boggy service park & the atrocious conditions on ‘Western Distributor’ which became a Commodores parking lot as they got bogged and slid off the road.
The other finisher was Crazy Dave Roberts with Matt Sosimenko navigating, who had a few interesting moment early before driving cautiously for the finish.
Fro Horobin/Matt Holloway DNF’d on SS1 hitting a tree on the passenger side A pillar which ripped the front wheel off and pushed the roll cage back bending the main hoop. Unfortunately the ‘Polynesian Dream’ has run its last rally.
Glenn Farrant with guest co-driver Jimmy Gleeson were driving with The Fazz’susual rapid style, until it all came undone on Stage 9, when the boys threw away a massive lead, DNF’d, making the series wide open for the last round in Canberra.
